The Allure and Hazards of Sugary Foods

Sugar is sweet. It's ubiquitous. And it is one of the single biggest threats to public health worldwide. Found in everything from candy, cookies and cake to pasta sauce, salad dressing and bread, it appears in more than 30 monikers. Although sugar increases food palatability and satiety, it is the proverbial double-edged sword, a "liquid candy" linked to numerous and reverberating health issues ranging from dental caries to obesity and diabetes.
